About The Art Brain Project

This is a little Mission Statement for my new Art Blog and sister Newsletter called THE ART BRAIN PROJECT. It’s kind of my attempt to provide a free guide to all your art-seekers out there. All of you who hope to improve your drawing and painting skills, and to do so as painlessly and efficiently as possible.

You see even though I’ve been at this a long time, I’m still always trying to learn more myself. Thus, on a daily basis I'm usually taking in some form of art content: art books, podcasts, YouTube videos or more structured oil painting and drawing  courses. And more recently some fun forays into the world of digital art.

And added to this has been a long-standing, if somewhat surprising, interest in all things brain science. What I’ve learnt here is that the quirks of how evolution has wired our brains has much to tell us about why we all tend to make the same perceptual mistakes, the same errors, when making art, and how to overcome these frustrating challenges.

Now I can’t say I have it all figured out, but with all these insights and connections swimming around in my head, I thought it might be time to clarify all these ideas by writing it down, and then throwing it out to the world to see if any of it resonates with you guys.

And with that idea The ART BRAIN Project was born. It’s kind of like the resource I wish I had thirty years ago, pointing toward what I reckon are the best teachers, the best books, the best exercises, the best ways to understand the foundational principals; All of the art education gold, that would have saved my younger self, and potentially you, a ton of time and needless frustration along your art journey.

And with an added sprinkling of insights from brain science, we might just get there a little faster, and little more efficiently than would otherwise be the case. That is the hope at least, so if you’d like to follow along please sign-up below! I'd be delighted to have you on board.
